Staajabu (poet, writer, and communicator) is the elder half of the mother-daughter poetry duo, Straight-Out-Scribes, originally from Camden, NJ. She has co-written and self-published six books of poetry and produced two spoken word CDs. From 1990 through 2006, Staajabu and her daughter, V.S. Chochezi, appeared as featured readers, spoken word performers, speakers, and workshop presenters at poetry venues, forums, workshops, conferences, conventions, political forums, rallies, churches, festivals, schools, colleges, community programs, radio and television programs and events in Sacramento, the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Their writings have appeared in numerous publications. Scribes Rising, their latest publication, includes some of their newest work as well as old favorites, and poems by young scribes-Jessicah and Tisho. Now living in Sicklerville, NJ, Staajabu is available for readings, Kwanzaa presentations and poetry workshops.
Staajabu is collaborating with Alpha Bruton on a project that is being performed at the Little Black Pearl Art and Design Center on October 10. Staajabu and Alpha's project is called "Tumbling Inside Out," and it involves a live audio-video connection with New Jersey. Alpha is creating a painting in response to Staajabu's poem.
